PwC to present Corporate Governance update for IOM Non-Executive Board members

by isleofman.com 7th March 2013

Nick Halsall, a PwC Isle of Man Assurance Partner, is to lead the latest part of PwC Isle of Man's ongoing commitment to keep local non-executive board members up to date on developments in corporate governance.

The one hour breakfast session at the Mount Murray Hotel on Thursday 21 March will discuss the corporate governance landscape, its relevance to companies on the Isle of Man and changes to the UK Corporate Governance Code.

Born and brought up in the Isle of Man, Nick has long associations with PwC, having joined Coopers & Lybrand directly from university in 1993. On completion of his training here he then spent five years in Boston, Massachusetts, experiencing the dotcom boom and bust, the Enron collapse and the resulting changes to financial regulation. His primary focus was business start-ups and listed clients in the technology sector; in particular high-tech manufacturing and life science/medical devices.

Back in the Island, his specialist areas are the listed and AIM markets, as well as being a member of PwC’s ‘Sustainability & Climate Change’ group, focusing on clients investing in carbon assets, and those operating in the renewable energy sector.

Nick Halsall comments: “At the end of September 2012, the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) announced a number of changes to the UK Corporate Governance Code and Stewardship Code.  These changes will apply to premium listed companies for accounting periods beginning on or after 1 October 2012.  The changes are aimed at giving investors increased confidence that the information in a company's annual report is transparent and reliable.

“PwC has supported this initiative since it began and we believe that an effective independent audit committee and the role played by non-executive board members coupled with high-quality corporate reporting can make a significant contribution to rebuilding trust and confidence in the market.”

Registration is from 8:30am. Breakfast baps and refreshments will be served during the registration period. The presentation will begin promptly at 9.00am finishing at approximately 10:00am.   Anyone interested in attending this event should contact Linda Jackson on 689 689 or email her at l.jackson@iom.pwc.com  no later than Monday 18 March.
