Local man’s ‘million steps challenge’ gets a boost from bank staff

by isleofman.com 11th December 2012

Staff from Standard Bank followed in Roger Davies’ footsteps to complete a steps challenge of their own and in the process raised ?3,000 to boost his fundraising efforts.

As a corporate sponsor of Roger’s challenge, Standard Bank took the opportunity to enhance its support through fundraising and at the same time mark its 150th anniversary by challenging staff to climb 150,000 stairs in one day.

To motivate the 20 staff to ‘step up,’ Roger Davies came along on the day to offer advice and encouragement and sponsorship was gathered from friends, family and clients.

Ian Hamilton, Head of Corporate & Business Banking, Standard Bank Isle of Man said: “We are delighted to be able to make a significant additional contribution to Roger’s fundraising and I’d like to thank all the staff who took part and everyone who offered sponsorship. As a corporate sponsor we recognised Roger’s extraordinary commitment to a very important local cause and by undertaking the challenge of 150,000 steps in one day our staff certainly got a little taste of what Roger is doing on a daily basis for an entire year.

He added; “This was a novel way to celebrate our 150th anniversary and we wish Roger all the very best with his challenge.”

Roger Davies said: “I am very grateful for all the support I have been shown from individuals and businesses since starting out on the challenge and to see Standard Bank’s staff take on their own challenge on my behalf was fantastic. Every penny raised during the year will go the Manx Cancer Help and so I thank everyone who has made a contribution.”

Roger Davies aims to reach the million steps target by completing an average minimum of 2,740 steps per day every day for 365 days to raise ?25,000 for Manx Cancer Help.
He started the challenge in May 2012. For more information about the million steps challenge and Roger Davies please visit www.millionsteps.co.uk.
