He is the strong, silent type, and from today, western roads will be under the watchful eye of PC Flat.

The new recruit will be out to encourage drivers to obey speed limits.

But the PC, who's actually just a life size plastic model, will be backed up by an officer on radar duty as part of a pilot scheme.

Inspector Simon Lowe from the Western Neighbourhood Policing Team says it's a new way of policing speeding hot-spots:
