Problems facing agriculture

by isleofman.com 7th March 2006
Government cannot be expected to solve all the problems facing the agricultural industry, according to Agriculture Minister Phil Gawne. (pictured)

His comments come as the House of Keys consider legislation which would change the set-up of the Isle of Man Agricultural Marketing Society.

It was established in 1934 with 25 members.

Now the plan is to reduce that number to 15, five of which would come from outside the industry to reflect opinions of everyone involved in the industry, from producers to consumers.

Mr Gawne says government can only be expected to do so much.
