Representatives of the Licensed Victuallers Association have been denied the opportunity of commenting on the Public Health Tobacco Bill in the House of Keys.
The decision came after a 90-minute debate when the move by East Douglas MHK, Brenda Cannell, to allow the LVA to comment was defeated by 13 votes to 6.
Mover of the bill Health Minister, Steve Rodan, said consultation had already taken place with the association, and further comment at this stage would be premature.
The decision on whether or not there will be dedicated smoking areas won't be made until regulations are agreed.
A furious Brenda Cannell said the only consultation that had taken place was via 3 loaded questions on a single sheet of paper.
Member for Middle, Martyn Quayle moved a successful amendment to permit Public Health Consultant Paul Emmerson to provide balance to the LVA arguments, but this was discarded when Mrs Cannell's motion was turned down.
With the departure of the industry representatives, Keys has continued its debate on the 26 clause bill.
