St John's school has been recognised for encouraging pupils to take an active role in decision making.

The school has been given an "Investing in Children" award.

'Investing in children' is a UK organisation which believes adults don't always know best, and that we must listen to, and learn from what children and young people have to say.

St John's has a school council which includes representatives from the very youngest children up to 11 year olds.

The council has its own budget and the members decide how that is spent.

The assessment report for the award says the staff has done a splendid job in making pupils feel they make a valuable contribution to the school.

Headteacher, Nigel Bennett, says it's a vital part of the learning process.
