A bankrupt couple facing fraud and money laundering charges in the United States have been told the Manx courts will help a trustee appointed by an American court.
Terry and Susan Brunning have more than half a million pounds in frozen assets here in the Isle of Man and claim attempts by authorities to seize their money violates their human rights.
The Brunnings were arrested in Mexico and extradited to the US where they’re facing charges connected to their postal business.
They declared themselves bankrupt, but objected to a trustee who was appointed by the American court to oversee their affairs.
They asked that Manx courts ignore American requests for cooperation, saying aspects of the proceedings across the Atlantic breached principles of natural justice and they wouldn’t get a fair hearing there.
However, in his judgement, Deemster Doyle said he could see no reason to refuse assistance to the bankruptcy trustee.
