Forklift truck crime

by isleofman.com 13th March 2006
Police are investigating a burglary in which a forklift truck was used to break down doors of an industrial unit.

Officers attended the Clocktower Industrial Estate in Foxdale just before 11am on Saturday after an automatic alarm had been activated.

They found a number of units had been forcibly entered, and once inside, the burglars had used a fork lift truck which belonged to one of the businesses to force their way out through roller shutter doors, and then used the vehicle to break down the front door of adjoining premises.

All the premises had apparently been searched, and so far only a small amount of cash has been identified as missing, although the damage caused may run into thousands of pounds.

Constable Ian Scott of the Western Neighbourhood Policing Team says the use of the fork lift truck in such a manner is an extreme and unusual event for the Island.

Anyone who saw any activity in the Industrial Estate during Saturday evening or who may have any information regarding the incident is asked to get in contact with police headquarters on 631212, or use the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111
