Groudle Glen planning turned down

by isleofman.com 15th March 2006
The Onchan MHK Peter Karran (pictured) has objected to the owners of the Groudle Glen Hotel building on extra function rooms.

An appeal against planning refusal by Champagne Ltd, has been turned down by the inspector David Hollis and accepted by the Minister. The proposal was to 'use sections of the existing building below road level as function rooms and reception areas, also areas for a kitchen and bar'.

Onchan Commissioners had backed it, but the DOT had objected on parking grounds.

Amongst individual objectors was Mr Karran who lives with his household just up the road in White Cottage. He said there had been a severe problem with the sewage system and obnoxious smells and there was concern for excessive noise from patrons using the function rooms at night, that would disturb his household.

The inspector suggested that if the appeal was dismissed as it had been it would enable the applicant to seek 'a reduced scheme involving facilities for visitors to the Glen or for customers wishing to have a coffee after a meal'.
