Island at the games

Images of the Isle of Man Commonwealth Games team were beamed around the globe earlier today, as they took part in the opening ceremony.

The 27 competitors plus coaches and officials were the fifth team to enter the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Competition gets underway tomorrow (Thursday); first in action are the swimmers and bowlers.

However, the ceremony didn't finish until late in the evening which mean some athletes couldn't stay until the end.

Team Manager Ian Harrop says he feels it important they played some part:
