Drink driving conviction

by isleofman.com 16th March 2006
A 22 year old man has been bailed for a total of three months by the High Bailiff.

Colin Quilliam, of Keppel Road, Willaston, appeared for sentence after admitting drink driving, driving whilst disqualified and without insurance, taking a vehicle without the owner's consent, driving without due care and attention, and failing to stop after an accident.

The court was told the defendant took his mother's car whilst she was away, and crashed it on Ballafletcher Road after colliding with a road bollard in the early hours of December 11th.

He left the scene and went to the home of his estranged wife where he consumed alcohol.

A blood alcohol reading of 185 milligrammes was accepted by the defence advocate, the legal limit is 80 mg.

Quilliam's advocate said the defendant was depressed and had no recollection of the accident. He'd been abusing alcohol for some time.

Mr Moyle said it was his third conviction for drink driving and he banned him from driving for six years.
