David Cretney is here - not in Oz!

by isleofman.com 20th March 2006
South Douglas MHK David Cretney has taken the unusual step of issuing a statement to clarify that he's NOT at the Commonwealth Games.

Mr Cretney says since he was shown on television recently waving the Manx flag in the middle of a packed stadium, and it seems many people have assumed he was with the Manx team in Australia.

However the footage shown was taken at the Manchester Commonwealth Games four years ago.

Mr Cretney says whilst he was invited to attend the games by the Australian Government and the Isle of Man team, and also take part in a meeting of Commonwealth Sports Ministers, he decided that for the sake of financial prudence he would see the team off from the Isle of Man, then lend his enthusiastic support for their endeavours from the Island.

He says he's confident the Manx Team will do their bit to promote the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games which will be held on the Isle of Man
