Barlow sentenced

by isleofman.com 20th March 2006
A 19 year old man has been given a six month prison sentence suspended for two years by the High Bailiff.

Paul Shane Barlow of Marine View Close, Onchan, appeared for sentence after he admitted four offences of stealing money from customer's accounts from the bank where he worked, and once offence of false accounting.

The offences were committed between July and August of last year. Barlow took ?6,212, all of which had now been repaid by the defendant who had taken on two jobs to earn the money.

Barlow worked at Nationwide International as an administrator.

His advocate said that whilst it wasn't a sophisticated crime it was a breach of trust, and happened when the defendant got into credit arrears.

Mr Moyle said distress was caused to the victims from whose accounts he took the money. He was giving full credit to the defendant for his very early guilty pleas and making the money to repay those whose money had been taken.
