Gymnast Alex Hedges produced a lifetime’s best performance in the men's all-round final on day five of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
The 19-year-old produced an impressive set of routines on the six pieces of apparatus to finish in 19th place overall in the event at the Rod Laver Arena.
This established him as one of the top 20 gymnasts in the Commonwealth.
There was also good news in the pool as young swimming star Olivia Rawlinson came home in fifth place in her heat of the women’s 200 metre backstroke.
There was a fifth place too for Emily Crookall-Nixon in her heat of the same event – the pair finishing 13th and 14th overall out of the 18 competitors taking part.
There was disappointing news for Martin Aram in the high jump.
He failed to qualify after three attempts at 2.15 failed.
And it was also back down to earth for the shooters after David Clague and Glenn Catlin could only manage 11th place in the men’s skeet.
