Major Tommy Thirtle dies

Major Tommy Thirtle, the Director of Music for the Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band for approaching thirty years, has died.

His long and distinguished career in music included the role of Director of Music at the Royal Military Coillege at Sandhurst, and Director for the Royal Horse Guards, "The Blues".

When he retired over here, he took on the role as a peripatetic woodwind teacher for the Department of Education.

He has a bridge named after him in Castletown.

Former Chief Inspector Rodney Evans took over the role with the Silver Band
