The growing problem of illegal immigrants has been highlighted by the Home Affairs Minister John Shimmin.
He revealed in Tynwald 19 illegal immigrants have been taken into custody in the year 2005/6, a substantial increase on the five persons in the previous year.
Mr. Shimmin acknowledged it’s a growing problem and in particular spoke on the difficulties with prisoners who can’t speak English, have special dietary requirements and religious beliefs.
Earlier Chief Minister Donald Gelling told members because illegal immigrants don’t make themselves known to the government has no way of knowing how many are on the Island.
