EU laws could affect church organs

by isleofman.com 24th March 2006
It being claimed 50 church organs in the Isle of Man could fall foul of two new European Union laws controlling hazardous materials in electronic goods. The directives, due to come into force in July, are aimed at products such as computers and mobile phones but will regulate all things electronic. As organs have lead pipes and most use electronic fans, new instruments could be banned as poisonous risks to health and the environment. Isle of Man based organ builder Peter Jones says the laws seem ill thought-out (audio file attached): (Picture: A library photograph of organ pipes).
