Highlighting Alzheimers

by isleofman.com 24th March 2006
A Consultant in Old-Age Psychiatry in the Isle of Man is welcoming the way the issue of Alzeheimers is currently being highlighted.

Dr Chris Jagus says the storyline in Coronation Street is doing a great deal to help break down the stigma and fear surrounding this issue.

Alzeheimers is the most common form of dementia, accounting for around 55 % of all cases.

In the Isle of Man it's thought there are around 1,000 people suffering with some form of dementia.

Dr Jagus says tackling the issue in a prime time soap is a very brave move, and one he hopes will help increase awareness.
