Ramsey lift Shimmin Wilson Manx Bowl

by isleofman.com 25th March 2006
A workmanlike performance from last season’s Manx Shield winners Ramsey was enough to overcome spirited resistance from Western Vikings as the northerners ran out 25-7 winners to claim the Shimmin Wilson Manx Bowl. Ramsey skipper Matt Livesey put his side ahead after 20 minutes. Stu McConnell added the second try on the half hour mark and the third with the final play of the first half. Young flanker James Robinson extended the Ramsey lead when he slid home early in the second half and the Ramsey performance was rounded off with the try of the game by the player of the game, Chris Kneale. Will Keenan drove down the left wing and he wriggled free from his tacklers and charged twenty yards before offloading to the supporting Kneale who cantered home and even had time for a hitch kick. In the closing seconds, Vikings got their reward for a gritty display. Replacements Joe Whitelegg and James Wrenn put pressure on the Ramsey midfield and right wing Lee Dillon was able to evade two tacklers to touch down under the posts. George Gadsby’s conversion for Vikings was the final kick of the match.
