Chernobyl Children set to return to Island

by isleofman.com 25th March 2006
Riot police in Belarus breaking up protests against newly re-elected President Alexander Lukashenko isn’t deterring an Isle of Man charity from its good work. Norman Rivers of the Friends of Chernobyl’s Children will fly out to Minsk in two weeks time in preparation for the annual visit from a group of children. The charity brings dozens of youngsters to the Isle of Man each year, giving them a break from their country’s grinding poverty and political instability. Mr Rivers says, despite the recent troubles, he’s not worried about making the trip. (Pictured - some Chernobyl children during last year's visit)
