Nursing home costs inquiry

Expectations shouldn’t be raised by the forthcoming inquiry into the cost of providing care for the elderly in Island nursing homes.

That’s according to the chairman of the Office of Fair Trading, Quintin Gill, after the Council of Ministers authorised the OFT to conduct the inquiry at a time some private nursing and residential homes are increasing their charges by 14%.

Mr Gill says a number of issues need addressing: (first audio clip)

Meanwhile, the Health Minister Steve Rodan says he’s unhappy with the five homes which plan to increase their prices significantly and has asked them to defer their charges: (second audio clip)
