Care bed question

by isleofman.com 29th March 2006
The Department of Health and Social Security says it has gained 30 residential care beds for the elderly over the last 25 years.

Minister Steve Rodan revealed the figure in a written answer to a question in the House of Keys this week.

Replying to Douglas North MHK Bill Henderson, he said although there’s been a rise in the number of DHSS beds, private beds have suffered a decrease since 1990, when homes had to meet licensed standards.

Mr Rodan said since that date, 74 nursing home beds and 224 residential home beds have vanished as homes have closed.
