Historic gold medal

Cycling fans in the Isle of Man will be hoping it won't be long before they catch a glimpse of the gold medal won by Mark Cavendish in the Commonwealth Games - now both are safely home.

The Manx team was greeted back yesterday with the two medals won in Melbourne - Mark's gold only the third the Island has ever won.

And that is likely to generate fresh interest in the other cycling gold medal won 40 years ago, which is on display at the Leece Museum in Peel.

Curator Roy Baker says the achievement is still honoured by the cycling community:
