HSBC Bank basketball league results

by isleofman.com 31st March 2006
A final league fixture between the young GBY team against a more experienced Phillies Douglas was well played but saw the GBYs bow to the superior offensive and defensive skill of Phillies this week.

The first playoff women’s fixture was between Search & Select Saints, still trying to tap into a top spot position, and Paramount City, consistent in form this year looking to hang on to their final with Prontos for league honours. A close run game saw Paramount steal the lead and take the win, making for an exciting April final between Prontos and Paramount at the close of the season.

Sleepwell Slammers and Fellas played a scrimmage friendly with a mix of teams. The Slammers won by 32-22, with great performances from new players this season Tracy Parkin and Amanda McMullin, and youngsters Sarah Kerford, Lauren Ellison, Jade Maddrell and Becky Dunne.

The top of the mens’ league table clash in the last fixture of the evening saw the mighty Cavaliers squad take on Royal Skandia Lions. Royal Skandia Lions can vary in form but the fixture was by no means easy for the Cavaliers who were found on the run with Skandia’s trademark steals and fast breaks causing some problems. Cavaliers as expected ran out winners 78-52, sealing their top slot against Ron Smith’s Turkeys in the April final playoff.
