A change to the licence at Onchan Park squash and social club could cause potential problems.
That’s according to commissioner Brian Stowell.
He was speaking after the requirement by police for the club to convert to what’s known as an on-licence – as used widely by hotels, restaurants and public houses - was confirmed by the licensing court.
Mr Stowell believes it could lead to a loss of control over membership: (first audio clip)
However, according to tenants Ray and Angela Hamilton, certain commissioners’ views are misfounded and there will be no change to the way the club is run.
Mr Hamilton says there’s an incorrect assumption the squash club will now become a mainstream public house and any suggestion the club is moving in a new direction is ridiculous: (second audio clip)
