Avian flu update

The Island's Public Health Consultant says there's no need for any immediate alarm following the apparent discovery of a case of bird flu in Scotland.

It's reported the dead swan found in a harbour in Cellardyke, Fife, did have the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu. Official confirmation is expected later this afternoon (Thurs).

There are concerns the bird had been in the water at Cellardyke in Fife for a few days before it was found last week and could have passed the virus to other animals.

However Isle of Man Public Health Consultant Dr Parameshwaran Kishore (pictured) says whilst the issue of pandemic flu is something we should be prepared for, this single case needs to be kept in perspective:
