No shocks in IoM Bank Junior Cup

by isleofman.com 8th April 2006
There were no major shocks as combination sides took centre stage in the Isle of Man Bank Junior Cup preliminary round.
However, Combination Two side Union Mills thrashed Combination One team Marown 6-0, Corinthians pushed St George’s hard before going down 2-0, and Laxey won a thrilling penalty shoot-out against Douglas Royal in the tie of the round after the sides drew 1-1 at Noble’s Park after 120 minutes.
At Ballamona, goals from Craig Duncan (two), Paul Blair, Peter Callin, Danny Lund and Nick Patrick saw the Merry Millers into the first round, while the Geordies – who featured two father and son pairings in Steve and Andy Falconer and Andy and Danny Pennington - needed second half goals from Rob Jones and an own goal to end Corinthians’ brave challenge.
Ramsey defeated Colby 1-0 at Ballacloan with a goal from John Leece – an impressive result as the home side played the whole match with just 10 men!
Their neighbours, Ramsey Youth Centre, didn’t fare as well, going down 5-1 at home to Douglas and District, for whom Nigel Paul scored a hat-trick and was joined on the scoresheet by James Mclhagga and Matthew Bartlett.
Newly crowned Combination One champions Peel cruised to a 5-0 win at battling Braddan, courtesy of goals from Scott Mylchreest (two), Neil Birchenough, Carl Roberts and Gary Christian.
Old Boys edged out Ayre United 2-1 at Blackberry Lane with first half goals from brothers Kenny Magee and Michael Magee.
Combination One side St Mary's thrashed Combination Two side Malew 7-2 with a Tom Weir hat-trick, a Jock Shaw double and further goals from Jamie Charlton and Mark Newall.
A Tony Quayle goal was enough for Michael to see off Foxdale in the western derby at Billy Goat Park, while Castletown won 6-1 at Jurby with two goals each from the experienced Greg Hoskisson, Ben Qualtrough and Michael Quine.
