There is likely to be concern in the Manx Government this morning over a major article in a United Kingdom newspaper at the weekend, which attacked the latest tax moves as "pandering to the demands of the super rich".
A Guardian report on the introduction of the zero corporate tax rate describes the Isle of Man as being "in a race with the Channel Islands" and refers to tax levels as "incentives for the rich".
While offshore critic Prem Sikka, a Professor at Essex University, is quoted as saying he finds it difficult to understand how the British Government can "tolerate tax evasion on such a scale", a stout defence is put up by former Chief Minister Sir Miles Walker.
Sir Miles says that taxation is a part of Manx autonomy that "the Isle of Man is not prepared to surrender".
The article also points out that it's easier to gain residency in the Isle of Man than the Channel Islands, and there are homes available, but adds "not much else happens".
