Wartime bell returned

A rare artefact has been returned to the Isle of Man after being found on an Internet auction site.

It is a wartime bell from HMS Valkyrie.

While it sounds like it spent its life on a ship, the HMS Valkyrie was actually a shore-based training unit – the Royal Navy Radar training station on Douglas Head – or Manx Radio's home, Broadcasting House as it’s now known.

The brass wardroom bell has been bought with funds from the Manx Heritage Foundation, which has presented it to the Manx Aviation and Military Museum.

Secretary of the Manx Aviation Preservation society, Ivor Ramsden, was delighted to have found the 1942 relic:
