Minister denies abandoning farmers

Agriculture Minister Phil Gawne has responded to criticisms from farmers that his department isn’t doing enough to protect their industry. He says DAFF is working hard to ensure the sector has a future but there is no way to preserve farming as it is now. Speaking on Manx Radio’s Sunday Opinion programme, Mr Gawne denied abandoning farmers to their fate. Instead, he says the department is looking at how best to help farmers adapt to circumstances beyond the government’s control:
