Walsh and Carney retain Easter titles

For the second year running, Leeds University athlete James Walsh has completed a cleansweep at the Easter Athletics Festival.

He won yesterday’s event on Douglas Promenade to add to his victories in the Great South 10K and Peel Hill Climb.

Gareth Raven of Sale Harriers was second overall, with third going to Bashir Hussain of Stockport Harriers.

The leading Island athlete at the Festival was Manx Harrier Darren Gray in 19th.

Liverpool Harrier Laura Carney was denied a treble when Olivia Walwyn from Durham Old Hobblers took victory in the 5K relay on Douglas Promenade yesterday morning. Laura was 14 seconds back in second spot giving her the overall win following triumphs in Port Erin and Peel. Olivia was second and Claire Duck from Leeds University third. The leading domestic athlete was Eve Wengrant from the Manx Tri Club in 10th spot.

The team prizes went to Hunters Bog Trotters “B” in the Men’s with Leeds University “A” topping the Women’s rankings.
