Grenade destroyed

A hand-grenade found on the coast near Ramsey this weekend has been destroyed in a controlled explosion carried out by the Royal Navy.

The pineapple-shaped device - thought to date from the second World War, was found on the beach by Mooragh Promenade by a member of the public yesterday.

Ramsey Coastguard sealed off and guarded the area throughout Sunday afternoon and night, and the device was moved then destroyed by the bomb disposal team early today.

Coastguard Northern Sector Manager Michael MacDonald believes the grenade had been washed in and out with the tide for some time, before it came to light:
