Delays to Laxey scheme

by isleofman.com 20th April 2006
The Chairman of Laxey Commissioners says he's disappointed at the outcome of last nights requisition meeting in the village.

It was called to discuss plans for a scheme to redevelop a recreational area in the village.

Whilst there is widespread support for improving the site in Glen Road, some residents are concerned what effect borrowing the project will have on their rates.

Commissioners' chairman, David Owens, says he believed there had been misinformation going around the village before the meeting and, despite his best efforts, he was unable to alter some people's perceptions

At the end of the evening there was no overall outcome, with 38 voting for the proposal, 48 against and 70 abstaining.

The delay on making any decision means the earliest any possible work could now take place would be next year.
