Vagas win away to avoid relegation

by isleofman.com 22nd April 2006
Skanco Vagabonds recorded only their second away win of the season by beating Aspull 18-13 in Wigan to avoid relegation from EuroManx South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One.

Vagas needed only a point from the game to stay up but they made doubly sure.
Mikey Olivier was the star for Vagas.

After playing much of the season in the third team, Olivier forced his way into the first team and repaid the selectors faith with two first half tries to seal the victory.

Olivier’s early brace was complimented by a penalty and conversion from Jonny Beckley to put Vagas in the driving seat 15-10 at half time.

Beckley added a further penalty in the second half as his side held on despite losing Midge van Vuuren to the sin bin.

The win now secures Vagabonds position in the top flight.
