Planners expected to turn down controversial proposals

by isleofman.com 24th April 2006
A residents’ action group opposing a proposed Douglas housing development is taking the unusual step of asking supporters NOT to come to a planning sitting later this week.

On Thursday, government’s planning committee will consider proposals by Heritage Homes to build 21 homes and an elderly mentally infirm unit in the Farmhill and Saddlestone area.

While residents in the vicinity aren’t opposed to an EMI Unit being built, they feel the site is inappropriate as the land is considered natural woodland and home to a number of protected habitats.

Supported by their MHK David Cretney, more than 200 letters of objection were handed into the planning office three months ago.

Although the planning committee is expected to turn down the plans on environmental grounds, one of the residents, Bill Malarkey hopes objectors won’t turn out in force.
