Manslaughter sentencing on Friday

by isleofman.com 24th April 2006
A sentencing date has been set for a Ramsey woman who denies murder.

Fifty year-old Ann Marie Gosling accepts the charge of manslaughter.

Forty-nine year-old Peter Roy Ormiston died over two years ago in January 2004 in Balleigh Park in Ramsey.

Charlotte Quayle reports (audio file attached):

At today’s (Monday) hearing, the charge was reduced to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

The court heard how Ms. Gosling has had a difficult life, had attempted suicide, had severe depression and a serious psychiatric state.

The prosecution advocate said the defendant had consulted her GP three months before the incident and saw the doctor again only days before Mr. Ormiston’s death.

She’d also signed herself off work for depression.

This week a doctor will explain to the court how much of a risk she believes Ms. Gosling poses to the public and which facility would most suit her needs.

The sentencing will be Friday Morning.
