Speed limit debate

by isleofman.com 25th April 2006
There was a good turnout for a pubic meeting in Douglas last night called to oppose the Government's campaign for a national speed limit.

Those present included MHK's Dominic Delaney and Quintin Gill, 'Supporters of Driving Safely', the group behind the recent full page protest advert in a local paper, and others from the nolimit.org.im website

The consensus at the meeting was that deaths and injuries on the Island's roads must be reduced, but an all-Island speed limit wasn't the way to do it.

Former British Trials Champion and Island resident Steve Colley (pictured) attended the meeting. He believes there are other issues to consider: (first audio clip)

Organiser of the website nolimit.org.im, Nick Teare, doesn't believe a blanket speed limit will work, and thinks there are better ways forward: (second clip)
