Rest of Island beat Cricket Champs

by isleofman.com 25th April 2006
A sparkling half-century from Pete Richards took the Rest of the Island to victory against Champions St. John's in the traditional opening match of the Cricket season.

The Saints batted first and were dismissed for 122 in the final of their 40 overs. The top score of 24 came from the willow of Greg Hawke. Neil Holmes claimed 3 wickets for 23 runs.

In reply, the Select side lost two early wickets before Richards came to the crease. His innings was a mixture of watchful defence and belligerent hitting. When he departed, the scoreboard showed 72 for 3.

Christian Steriopulos and Danny Kniveton then guided their team to a 7 wicket win with only 1 over to spare.
