Tynwald to stick with Lieutenant Governor

It sparked a heated debate in the Isle of Man - and moved some objectors to write to the Queen.

But now it isn't going to happen.

Tynwald yesterday rescinded its decision to change the title Lieutenant Governor to Crown Commissioner, after a barrage of objections.

Service organisations were among the fiercest critics of the name-change proposal and in the end the consultation it would have required proved too costly.

But Chairman of the Constitutional Committee Tony Brown (pictured) says the debate proved a significant section of the Manx people were in favour:
