Fire services attended an incident at a house in Douglas last night (Mon 1st).
Three appliances were called to a house in Strang Close at around 7pm after it was reported that the garage of the property was ablaze. It was also thought that one person may still be in the building.
It was quickly established that all the occupants of the house were accounted for, and firemen wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze, which had started in a tumble dryer.
The house was heavily smoke logged, although damage was limited to the garage. The occupier had suffered from smoke inhalation and was treated by an ambulance crew.
Fire services say the incident highlights the need for anyone who discovers a fire to call the fire service immediately, and only fight the fire if it is safe to do so. Householders are also reminded of the the importance of changing batteries in smoke alarms and checking them weekly. The property in question had an alarm fitted but it failed to operate.
