Health and Safety has come under the spotlight in a number of high-profile cases recently, and a select committee says it would like to see legislation sharpened.
The Tynwald committee considering the issue says it wants a government inspectorate to be set up.
Jason Roberts reports (text from attached audio file):
The committee, chaired by Quintin Gill MHK, notes a number of embarrassing cases such as police withdrawing from closed roads during TT, the closure of Silverdale boating lake and an Onchan torchlight procession which eventually went ahead without torches.
It says the best way of preventing such situations is to set up an inspectorate drawn from Tynwald, local authorities, the private sector and the public.
The report, due to be discussed by Tynwald later this month, says there needs to be a review of legislation.
And new laws governing compensation should be considered.
