Jurby school unit to close

Jurby School’s Special Needs Unit is to be closed so staff can be redeployed into other areas where demand is high, says Education Minister David Anderson.

He was responding to criticism of the decision to withdraw the service with effect from July.

Mr Anderson (pictured) says a survey of need around the Island shows Douglas and Onchan will need more staff, while only three children will need the Jurby unit in the next year.

He says the move is necessary to meet needs elsewhere:
