The inquest into the death of a 75 year old Onchan man who died in Noble's Hospital has been opened and adjourned.

Coroner Michael Moyle told the hearing that further tests on Sydney Austin Oldam would decide whether it would be resumed at a later date.

Kate Skinner reports:

(Text of attached audio)
Mr Oldam was admitted to Noble's on the 17th of April with a partial large bowel obstruction.

He underwent an operation, but died in the Intensive Therapy unit on Monday 24th April.

A post mortem carried out by Dr Christopher Clague revealed he died from septic shock, as a result of septicemia caused by perforation of the large bowel.

A letter to the Coroner from Dr Clague advised a further examination be carried out on the bowel.

Mr Moyle released the body.
