Thirty more jobs go as Strix closes Ronaldsway factory

by isleofman.com 11th May 2006
The Strix factory at Ronaldsway is to close, with the loss of 30 jobs.

At the same time the company is transferring 65 jobs to Ramsey, which will become its only manufacturing base in the Isle of Man.

Strix, which made 50 staff redundant in January last year and was acquired by ABN Amro Capital three months later, blames the continuing shift of kettle manufacture from Europe to the Far East.

A media release says another reason for today's announcement is a dramatic and continuing increase in commodity prices, particularly copper and silver.

The latest redundancies will be effective by the end of next month and the transfer to Ramsey will be completed by the end of July.

Every effort will be made to avoid compulsory redundancies.
