Beattie the Manx hero at NorthWest 200

by isleofman.com 13th May 2006
Nigel Beattie was the Manx hero at a successful NorthWest 200 on Saturday.
Beattie won the 250cc race in a time of 24 minutes, 58.517 seconds.

Beattie also claimed 13th position in the first two races of the day, took 20th place in race five and finished 14th in the 600cc final event of the day.

There was also success for Dave Madsen-Mygdal who won the 400cc race.

Newcomer Connor Cummins completed an impressive week with ninth place in race four and 14th position in the opener.

Elsewhere, New Zealander Bruce Anstey claimed wins in the opening 600cc race and Superstock events.

Steve Plater also celebrated a double.

He had started his day by securing his first ever win at the North West after Michael Rutter fell off late.

Rutter seemed likely to gain compensation for that mishap when he forged a five-second lead early in the main Superbike race but Plater reeled him in before going into the lead late on the closing lap.

Plater set a new lap record (124.110mph) on the way to his second victory of the day while John McGuinness was some way back in third place - the same position he had filled in the opening Superbike race.

In the final event of the day, the second 600cc race, Ian Hutchinson took the honours ahead of runner-up Rob Frost and third placed Anstey.
