Union chief calls for diversification

by isleofman.com 13th May 2006
It’s time to be prepared for a potential downturn in our manufacturing industry.

That’s the belief of union chief, Bernard Moffatt, who says the Island needs to diversify further if it's to avoid a repeat of the scenario affecting Strix.

On Thursday, the company announced it was shedding 30 jobs, closing its Ronaldsway plant and transferring production to Ramsey.

Although there are around 600 job vacancies in the Island at present, Mr Moffatt says the situation could change – and we need to be prepared for that.
