Conflict of interest claim in Tynwald

Ramsey MHK Anne Craine has robustly defended herself in Tynwald against claims of a conflict of interest.

It centres on the inquiry into the Bradda Head fire in 2003, which was chaired by Mrs Craine.

The report concluded former fire chief Alan Christian should be censured for his handling of the blaze.

But Mr Christian then claimed the MHK's involvement in another inquiry - over alleged breach of fire regulations at her brother's company - was a conflict of interest.

All ten charges against the firm were dismissed in court.

Mrs Craine had been a director of the company, but she says that role ended before she chaired the Bradda Head committee.

And she believes it may now be much harder for such committee to be formed in future:
