Body image - media blamed

The media has a lot to answer for when it comes to perceptions of body image.

Pat Heggs from the Mental Health Promotion Team says there is far too much focus in magazines on weight, external looks and possessions, putting lots of pressure on youngsters to alter their bodies and looks in order conform.

This can lead to cases of eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia.

Specialist nurse on Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Ali Duff, says such problems don't just affect the young person concerned:
