Knife amnesty underway

by isleofman.com 25th May 2006
Owners of bladed weapons in the Isle of Man are being given just over a month to hand them in at police stations.

The amnesty, reflecting a similar initiative underway in the United Kingdom, will run until midnight on Sunday, July 2nd.

Knives, swords and machetes are among the items which can be handed in with 'no questions asked' at Police Headquarters in Douglas and the police stations at Ramsey, Peel and Port Erin.

Manx police say the aim is to reduce the risks of such weapons being used in the community.

Bladed instruments surrendered should be protected with some kind of sheath. Police say cardboard and tape will usually be sufficient.
