Warning after yacht runs aground

The coastguard has issued another warning to those going out in pleasure craft, after a yacht from the Isle of Man was rescued off the coast of Scotland.

The Smart Dolphin had a problem with its rudder and was beached as it headed for the Clyde earlier this week.

A lifeboat from Portpatrick and helicopter from RAF Valley rescued three people who went to hospital for checks but were later released.

Although the problem couldn’t have been foreseen, John Griffiths of Clyde coastguard says the incident illustrates the need for care (audio file attached):
